Mr. Zal Andhyarujina, an ex-Cathedralite and currently an eminent lawyer at the Mumbai High court was invited to give a talk to the Junior School students this morning on ‘Fairness’, a value being discussed as part of our Project this year. Mrs. Shazia Andhyarujina, a lawyer by profession, also accompanied Mr. Andhyarujina for the talk.
He spoke and interacted with the students of Grade 2, 3 and 4 on the basic concept of Fairness in connection the project on Values being done in Junior School. He cited examples from History of racial discrimination. 18th July, the day before the talk, was observed as Nelson Mandela International Day and it marked 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela. In that context, Mr. Andhyarujina spoke about Mr. Mandela’s imprisonment and his book ‘Long Walk to Freedom’.
He also discussed fairness with regard to different perspectives, and the importance of law to be fair and equal. He stated that fairness is an idea that changes with time.
Building the metro at the cost of cutting down a million trees was discussed with different viewpoints of fairness.
This was followed by an active interaction with the students as he related fairness to school related situations, with different criteria for auditions and competitions.
The students and teachers were kept engaged with the inspiring talk.
