The Cathedral and John Connon Middle school has been closely working with the Behtar India Campaign, an initiative by NDTV from the month of March. The team of ten students along with two teachers-in-charge attended the first convention of the campaign on 22nd March, 2017 and got to understand the objectives and stages of the campaign which would help the school earn points and get zonal and national rankings. The school team started working enthusiastically on the first stage i.e. ‘BEHTAR SWASTHYA’ by creating awareness about prevention of dengue and completed it successfully by raising funds to buy dengue kits for underprivileged children. They moved on to the next stage i.e. ‘BEHTAR SWACHHTA’ by carrying out a cleanliness drive at the seashore of Cuffe Parade after Ganpati Visarjan on 6th September, 2017. By then the team of ten students had increased to twenty! The Ward Corporators, Mr Makrand Narvekar and Mrs Harshita Narvekar along with BMC lent their complete support and helped the team to complete the cleanliness drive. During the drive, the team not only realised the importance of cleanliness and protection of the environment but also came out as strong supporters of Eco- Friendly Ganpatis. The last stage i.e.‘BEHTAR VATAVARAN’ was completed on 29th September, 2017 by planting 300 saplings at Vikas Garden next to World Trade Center. The saplings for the same were donated by the Reliance Group and BMC. It was a great learning experience for all the team members. The school awaits the result of the campaign.
